Zouk Styles Midwest Weekender Featuring Renato Veronezi!

THE EVENT!

Rio Zouk, Lambazouk, Neo Zouk, Flow Zouk, Neo Lambada, Lyrical Zouk, Urban Zouk, Brazilian Zouk… no matter what you call it, it’s safe to day we are all dancing some form of Lambada with added sugar and spice that we now lovingly refer to around the world as simply Zouk. The more we learn about each style, however, the more we can connect to our diverse partners and to the diverse music we hear at socials. For this event, I am excited to bring Chris Van Houten, Katie Ann and Ethan Brontzman, and myself together with Renato Veronezi, for a weekender as hand-crafted as a pumpkin spice latte… don’t worry, Sydney is only teaching like 2 classes, so she will have to keep the puns to a minimum…

THE TOUR!

Sydney Charisse and Just Jacob are thrilled to be part of a team bringing Renato Veronezi to the USA this fall! Lucky for us, we not only get to host him first, but we also get to feature the creator of Urban Zouk alongside some cornerstones of the Midwest zouk community! The focus of this weekender is on expanding our zouk toolkits so we can truly dance to anything and connect more fully to our own bodies, our styling, and all of the diverse dancers and music genres we encounter in this global community.

THE HEADLINER!

RENATO VERONEZI is one of the biggest names on the Brazilian ballroom dance scene as the creator of Urban Zouk (Vero Zouk). He began his dance career in Jaime Arôxa’s dance company in Rio de Janeiro for 10 years. In 2009, he began developing the Urban Zouk style and in 2010, he started his own dance company in São Paulo. Many headlining artists you see today (for example: Dadinho and Pedrinho) joined his company to learn Urban Zouk and then went on to have their own successful international careers as teachers and performers. His style quickly become a massive sensation around the world as he traveled to the UK, Holland, Czech Republic, Australia, USA, and Japan. In 2017 he moved to London for one year to create an Urban Zouk community there together with Pedrinho and Linda Mattos. In June 2018 he moved to Warsaw, Poland where he is promoting Urban Zouk together with his wife Bea Veronezi.
