Zoukology interviewed Carlos & Anastasia to learn more about them! They will also be coming to North America for the first time to ZoukMX in Playa Del Carmen!

How did Carlos start his career?

Carlos is a self-taught artist. In order to earn his first money a 13-years old Carlos was selling his drawings (of Superheroes, Harry Potter, etc) to school friends. 3 years ago he started to make tattoos and now practically every Zouk or Samba teacher from Rio has a tattoo made by him.

Anastasia, what  is your background and how did you get started?

Anastasia has B.A. degree in Philology and M.A. in Linguistics from St.Petersburg State University. She used to give Portuguese classes and started dancing Zouk during her 6 months internship in Brazil.

How did you both meet?

Carlos and Anastasia met in Russia when she hired him to work at her school. After they discovered that for several years they had been to the same places and events in Rio, they had the same friends, but they never met and never knew each other before.

Something interesting you both may not like?

Anastasia loves beaches and swimming and Carlos doesn’t like it and  doesn’t even know how to swim. Maybe Mexico can change this 🙂

Does Carlos have family that dances?

Carlos has 2 brothers that also graduated CDAC (Alex De Carvalho School of Dance in Rio) like brazilian dance teachers, but they don’t work with dance.

How did the first kiss happen?

When Carlos tried to kiss Anastasia for the 1st time, she didn’t accepted. It was in Starbucks in a shopping center and she didn’t find this place romantic enough for the 1st kiss.

Any special nicknames to tell us about?

Russian students gave special nicknames to Carlos and Anastasia mixing Portuguese and Russian diminutives: “Carlushinho and Nastushinha”
