Five years ago today, my cousin took me to my first Zouk event in Rio and I had no idea what I was really getting myself into. When I stepped foot onto that dance floor, a mix of emotions ran through me. First thing I thought was, “I NEED to learn this dance!” These were moves I only thought I’d be able to explore by myself in front of my bedroom mirror and here I am watching people using them on a dance floor and exploring them with a partner. It was something so new and exciting that I had never seen before. That day changed my life forever.

I recently moved back to New York after living in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the past three years. Though I’d love to say that Zouk has taken over my life, the truth is I have another passion. I studied a master’s in journalism while living there and though it was tough to balance both obsessions, I was able to do so, since Zouk has always been a necessary from of therapy for me.

So, I started thinking about ways of combining both addictions and came up with: Zoukology Magazine.

Zoukology Magazine is an innovative way of presenting everything that is going on around the world associated with Zouk. Right now you will find tons of facebook invites, events, pages, and individual websites all over the Internet, but no media that brings it all together in a successful and up to date manor.

This magazine will include a timeline of all major events so that you can be informed on what is going on around the world without having to ‘like’ every Zouk facebook page you run into. It will also include photography depicting what the Zouk scene is like in different cities: their style, their moves, their fashion, etc.

Zouk is a dance that is constantly changing and growing. For those obsessively passionate, keeping up with it’s style innovations, new intricate dance moves and ever changing remixed club songs has become a full time job. With soundcloud music updates, photography and articles regarding fashion and dance technique and interviews with featured dancers and artists such as Paolo Mac – We will help you stay connected.

I don’t want our articles to just be about cheery dance columns. I want this to be a place where people can come to express their feelings about their love for the dance and their personal opinions on different issues, whether it be negative or positive. You don’t have to be a writer to contribute. This is a magazine is for dancers, not scholars, so don’t be afraid to speak up and remember, I can always make you anonymous.

If you have something to say or show about Zouk and want to be heard, this is the place to do it, and where you know the targeted audience will actually read/ see it.

Misturando Paixões

Há cinco anos atrás, minha prima me levou para o meu primeiro evento de Zouk, no Rio. Eu não fazia ideia do que me esperava. Quando pisei naquela pista de dança, uma mistura de emoções passou pelo meu corpo. A primeira coisa que pensei foi: “Tenho que aprender essa dança!”. Pensava que aqueles movimentos eram somente praticados em frente ao espelho, sozinho no quarto. Porém ali estava eu, vendo as pessoas utilizando-os naquela pista, explorando-os com seus parceiros. Esse dia mudou minha vida para sempre.

Faz pouco tempo que voltei para New York (depois de ter morado em Buenos Aires, Argentina, durante três anos). Adoraria dizer que o Zouk tomou o controle da minha vida, mas a verdade é que tenho mais uma paixão. Enquanto morei em Buenos Aires fiz uma pós graduação em jornalismo. Apesar de ter sido difícil equilibrar as duas obsessões, arrumei um jeito de fazê-lo, afinal Zouk sempre foi uma forma de terapia para mim.

Então, quando comecei a pensar em um jeito de combinar as duas paixões, veio me: Zoukology Magazine.

Zoukology Magazine é um jeito inovador de apresentar tudo que está acontecendo mundialmente em relação ao Zouk. Até então você encontra inúmeros convites e páginas pelo Facebook, sites individuais por toda a internet mas nenhuma mídia que traz todas estas informações juntas em um só local.

Esta revista incluirá uma linha do tempo de todos os principais eventos de modo que você esteja bem informado do que está acontecendo no mundo sem ter que “curtir” toda página do Facebook que você vê. Também teremos uma fotografia retratando como é a cena de Zouk em casa cidade: seus estilos, seus movimentos, sua moda, etc.

Zouk é uma dança que está constantemente mudando e crescendo. Para aqueles obsessivamente apaixonados, manter-se atualizados sobre as inovações de estilo, novos e complexos movimentos em constante mudança e os mais atuais remixes de músicas tornou-se um trabalho de tempo integral. vamos ajudá-los a estar sempre conectados, trazendo atualizações de músicas no Soundcloud, fotografias e artigos sobre moda e técnicas de dança e entrevistas com dançarinos e artistas de destaque, como Paulo Mac. Eu não quero que nossos artigos sejam apenas animadas colunas sobre dança . Eu quero que este seja um lugar onde as pessoas possam expressar seus sentimentos sobre seu amor pela dança e as suas opiniões pessoais sobre diferentes questões, sejam elas opiniões negativas ou positivas. Você não precisar ser um escritor para contribuir; esta é uma revista para dançarinos, e não uma revista científica , por isso não tenha medo de falar,. E lembre-se, posso sempre publicar seu artigo em anonimato.

Se você tem algo a dizer ou mostrar sobre Zouk e quer ser ouvido, este é o lugar para fazê-lo, é onde você sabe que o público-alvo vai realmente ler / ver.
